Then he said: "By God, what makes me cry are the female sinners behind this curtain. Without them, death would be easier on me. Indeed, I am a believer in God and I am repentant towards God for indeed God is forgiving."'

He said: 'I said: My brother, the one you hope for in the forgiveness of your sins, also hope for in the well-being of your daughters, because the forgiveness of sins is greater than life sustenance. So Abdullah said: "May Allah reward you well. You have spoken the truth."'

When Shabath fell ill—the illness that he died from—my father sent me to him. I entered upon him while his daughters were supporting him. I said: 'My father sends you his regards and asks how you are feeling.' 195 He said: 'I find myself at the end of a world's day, and the beginning of a day from the Hereafter, tell your father my regards.' Then he turned to his daughters and humorously quoted Labid's [long sea] verse: 'My daughters wish for their father to live ... but am I anything other than from Rabia or Mudar? Speak of what you know ... do not contort your faces nor cut your hair. And say: he was a man who did not lose a friend ... did not betray the leader nor deceive.'
