The Meaning of Prophecy
It is understood as having a tribe or thorn that prevents harm from the non-believers, until he delivers the message of his Lord, and completes the will of God in fulfilling His religion and way of life.
3- Evidence of Prophethood in Khadijah's Conversion to Islam
Ibn Khaldun discusses the conversion to Islam of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid and Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, as well as mentioning the conversion of Waraqah bin Nawfal and other contemporaries as evidence of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prophethood. But how did Khadijah convert to Islam?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not invite her to embrace Islam! Rather, he recounted to her the story of receiving the revelation, saying: "Cover me up, cover me up" until his fear was relieved. This was a situation Khadijah had not previously witnessed in the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). She knew him as a young man who traded with her wealth.
Through this relationship, she recognized his honesty, trustworthiness, perfect human qualities, and ultimate ideal. She was moved by Maysarah's narration that stirred admiration and emotions.
Khadijah was a wise, noble, and intelligent woman of honor and wealth. She hired men to trade with her wealth, sharing a portion of profit with them. When she heard about the Prophet's (peace be upon him) honesty, the greatness of his trustworthiness, and his noble manners, she offered him a trading venture to the Levant, promising to give him better compensation than she gave to others, along with a servant of hers, known as "Maysarah".
When Maysarah informed her about the monk's statements, and what he observed of the angelic shading over him during the heat of migration, the nobility of his companionship, his righteous character, and his truthful speech...

The Idea of Marriage Takes Shape in Khadijah's Mind
The idea of marrying Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, crystallized in Khadijah’s mind. She went to her cousin, Waraqa bin Naufal and shared what she had heard and observed about Muhammad’s character and his condition. Thus, Waraqa responded:
If this is true, O Khadijah, then indeed Muhammad is the prophet of this nation. I knew that there would come a prophet for this nation…this is his time.
After this conversation with Waraqa, the idea of marriage to Muhammad, peace be upon him, entrenched itself deeply in Khadijah's mind, becoming more attractive and brilliant.
Authentic Character, Not Wealth was Khadija’s Motive
Attraction was not Khadijah's objective in her marriage; although Muhammad was the best of people in character. Nor was it wealth, as Muhammad wasn’t a wealthy person but a man of noble traits, a transparent spirituality, radiant illumination, and noble highness. Ibn Hajar reported from Al-Fakhia in his book about Mecca that the Prophet, peace be upon him, asked his uncle Abu Talib’s permission to approach Khadijah, which was granted. Thereafter, he sent a maid named Naba'a and said, “See what Khadijah says to him"
The Plain Hint
Naba'a said, "What I witnessed was astonishing, I heard Khadijah speaking to him as she went out to the door, and she said, "I hope that you will be the prophet who is to come. If you are him, then recognize my right and my place, and call on the God who sends you to me." Responding, Muhammad said to Khadijah:
By Allah! if I am he, you have chosen something that I will never disappoint, and if I am not he, then the God for whom you have done all this will not let you down ever.
The idea became profoundly clear in Khadijah's mind, and all that was left was its implementation. Thus, after Muhammad's return from Syria, she sent Nafisa bint Munyah to propose to Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The Proposal to Khadijah
She asked: "O Muhammad! What prevents you from getting married?"
He replied: "I don't have what I need to get married."
She said: "But if I secure all that, and you are provided with wealth, beauty, honour and compatibility, wouldn't you agree?"
He asked: "But who will I marry?"
She said: "Khadijah."
He asked: "How can that be possible?"
She said: "Leave it to me."
He replied: "Then I will do so."
Ammar Ibn Yasser's Account
Ammar Ibn Yasser said, "I am the most knowledgeable of people concerning the Prophet's marriage to Khadijah. I was his companion and I was by his side. I went out with the Prophet until we arrived at Al-Hazwarah, Mecca's marketplace. We stumbled upon Khadijah's sister who was sitting on a pile of goods for sale. She spotted and called me. I turned to her and the Prophet waited for me. She asked, "Does your friend here have any need to marry Khadijah?"
Ammar replied to her: "I will inform him."
Upon seeing the Prophet, he said: "Yes indeed, for my life it is."
Ammar continued: "So I relayed the Prophet's response to her and she said, 'Come visit us tomorrow morning'."
The Meeting with Khadijah's Family
The family of Abdul Muttalib came the next day, with Hamza, the uncle of the Prophet, and Abu Talib at the forefront. They went to Khadijah's house where they were welcomed by Khadijah's uncle Amr Ibn Asad and her cousin, Waraqah Ibn Nawfal. Abu Talib stood up to give a speech. He began to say:...

Muhammad of Quraysh
After affirming God's name, our Prophet Muhammad hails from the Quraysh. No man in their midst compares in terms of honour, nobility, virtue, and intelligence. Though his wealth might be scarce, remember that wealth is a fleeting shadow, and those who covet it will have it taken back. As for him, he has a strong affection for Khadijah, the daughter of Khuwaylid, and she reciprocates this feeling.
Amr Approves
Amr was content with Muhammad and stated, "He is an outstanding individual who always keeps his pride intact".
Return from the Cave of Hira
When Muhammad returned from the Cave of Hira, he was perturbed and requested that they cover him with a blanket. They did so until his fear subsided, and he started narrating his experience to Khadijah saying, "Oh Khadijah! This is a daunting event." He revealed to her the magnitude of the occurrence that had shaken him.
Khadijah's Support
When Khadijah asked him to clarify what had made him fearful, he replied, "I feared for my life!". To this she responded, "No, by Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You maintain good ties with your relatives, you speak the truth, you bear the burden of the weak, and you help in fulfilling the rights of those deserving".
She was engulfed in an extraordinary luminary strength and clear confidence. She comforted her husband with a sense of responsibility, wiping his face and assuring him, "Be cheerful, by Allah I knew that God will only bring about good for you. I bear witness that you are the prophet of this nation whom the Jews are awaiting for. The matter has been told to me by my counsel boy and Bahira, the monk."
Khadijah's Care and the Arrival of Addas
She didn't leave the Prophet Muhammad's side, making sure he was fed, hydrated, and had his spirits uplifted until he laughed. When Prophet Muhammad started laughing, she gathered his clothes, left her place, and sought out Addas, a boy who had encountered Rabiah bin 'Abd Shams, a Christian from the inhabitants of Nineveh. She said to him "Oh Addas, I remind you of Allah. Except what you have told me, do you have any knowledge of Gabriel?"

An Encounter of Divine Inquiry
He exclaimed: "Pure! Pure! Why is Gabriel mentioned in this land whose people are pagans?" She asked, "Tell me what you know about him." He replied, "He is God’s trustee amongst the prophets, and he is the companion of Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them."
Visiting a Monk near Meccah
She then went to a monk near Mecca, and when she approached him and he recognized her, he asked, "What brings you here, noble lady of Quraysh?" She replied, "I came to you to learn about Gabriel." He exclaimed, "Glory to God! Our Pure Lord! Why is Gabriel mentioned in this land, whose inhabitants worship idols?. Gabriel is God's trustee and his messenger to his prophets and apostles.. and he is the companion of Moses and Jesus."
The Consultation with Waraqa ibn Nawfal
Khadijah left him and came to Waraqa ibn Nawfal, who despised the worship of idols. She asked him about Gabriel, and he said the same thing. He then inquired of her news, to which she swore him to secrecy about what she was about to say. He, in turn, swore to keep her words confidential. She said: "Muhammad has told me – and he is truthful: I swear by God he has never lied – that Gabriel descended upon him in Hira, and that he informed him he was the prophet of this nation and recited to him verses sent down to him."
Waraqa's Response and Warning
Waraqa was stunned by this and exclaimed: "Pure! Pure! By the life of Waraqa in his hand, if you are telling me the truth, Khadijah, he is indeed the prophet of this nation. It is the Law-bearer who came to Moses, peace be upon him, that is coming to him. Tell him to stay firm. But oh Khadijah, send to me the son of Abdullah so I can ask him and hear his account, for I fear it could be other than Gabriel, for some demons impersonate him, to corrupt some of Adam's descendants to the point of driving a man out of his sanity."

The Encounter with Waraqah
She arose from his side, confident that only good would come to her companion. Khadijah set off with Muhammad, peace be upon him, towards Waraqah. She said to her cousin, "Listen to your nephew." Waraqah asked him, "What do you see, nephew?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, relayed his story. Waraqah said, "By God, the Namus[1], the greatest, who came to Moses is indeed coming to you. You are a prophet to this nation, and you will indeed be harmed, fought, assisted. If I live to see it, I will indeed support you in a way that only Allah knows."
Waraqah then leaned in and kissed his forehead before he returned home. Allah had strengthened him through the words of Waraqah and lifted a portion of his concerns. In regards to Waraqah, he proclaimed, "Gabriel will come to him, with Michael accompanying them... it is divine revelation from Allah that opens one's heart."
Khadijah's Interaction
As for Khadijah, she wanted to test the involvement of Gabriel to clarify the matter. So she said to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, reaffirming what Allah had honored him with in his prophecy: "Cousin, can you tell me about the companion who comes to you when he visits you?" The Prophet replied, "Yes." Khadijah said, "When he comes to you, inform me."
So it happened that when the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was with her, Gabriel arrived. The Prophet, peace be upon him, saw him and said, “Oh Khadijah, this is Gabriel.” She asked, "Can you see him now?" He replied, "Yes."
Note
[1] The Namus is Gabriel, the holder of the secret of good. From him comes the Spy, the holder of the secret of evil.
