Chapter on the Excellence of Those Who Witnessed Badr Among the Angels and Companions

Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Hafiz narrated to us: Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Saffar told us: Isma'il ibn Ishaq reported to us: Sulaiman ibn Harb said: Hammad ibn Zaid informed us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Mu'adh ibn Rifa'ah ibn Rafi', who was from the companions of Badr, and he used to say to his son: "I do not like that I witnessed Badr and did not witness Al-Aqabah." He said: "Gabriel asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'How are the people of Badr among you?' He replied: 'They are our best men.' Then Gabriel said: 'Likewise, those who witnessed Badr among the angels are the best of the angels.'"

This hadith is reported by Al-Bukhari in Sahih from Sulaiman ibn Harb.

Abu Amr Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Bistami narrated to us: Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ibrahim Al-Isma'ili informed me, from Al-Hasan ibn Sufyan, who reported from Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, who narrated from Jarir, from Yahya ibn Sa'id Al-Ansari, from Mu'adh ibn Rifa'ah.

Hadith about the Battle of Badr

Al-Zurqee narrated from his father, saying: His father was one of the companions of the Battle of Badr, and his grandfather was from the companions of the pledge of Aqabah. He said, "Gabriel came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, 'How do you consider those who participated in the Battle of Badr among you?' He replied, 'Among the best of the Muslims or among the elite of the Muslims.' Gabriel said, 'Likewise, those angels who participated in the Battle of Badr.'" This hadith is narrated by Al-Bukhari in the Sahih from Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and also from Yahya ibn Ayyub on the authority of Yahya ibn Saeed.

The Story of the Woman and the Book at Khakh

It was narrated that Saad ibn Ubaidah, on the authority of Abu Abdur-Rahman al-Sulami, who mentioned that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent me along with Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi and Zubair ibn Al-Awwam, and all of us were horsemen. We were told to go until we reached a place called Khakh where there was a woman from the pagans carrying a letter regarding betrayal to the pagans. We caught up with her as she was riding a camel and asked her about the letter. She denied having any such thing. We searched her belongings but found nothing. We threatened to strip her to find the letter, and only then did she produce it. We took the letter back to the Prophet, who was asked to allow her punishment. However, the Prophet inquired about her intentions, and she said she did it to secure support for her family. The Prophet accepted her explanation and advised not to say anything negative to her. Despite this, Umar insisted on her punishment, but the Prophet questioned him, reminding him of her relation to the companions of Badr."
