Bab al-Ma Dhahara fi Hafri al-Khandak Min Dalail al-Nubuwwah wa Athar al-Sidq
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz told us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub told us that Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar told us that Yunus ibn Bukayr narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq, saying: "In the trench of al-Khandak, there were narrations that reached me, in which I saw proof of the truthfulness of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the realization of his prophethood. The Muslims witnessed this.
It was conveyed to me that Jabir ibn Abdullah used to narrate that at one part of the trench, there was a large rock that was difficult to break. They complained to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He called for a container of water, spat in it, invoked by the will of Allah whatever he wished, sprinkled that water on the rock, and said: 'By the One who sent him with the truth, it will crumble like sand that is blown away, without leaving trace or scratch.'
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi told us that Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us that Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar told us.

The Story of Jaabir ibn Abdullah at the Battle of the Trench
Introduction
Jaabir ibn Abdullah narrated that during the Battle of the Trench, they were digging the trench when a rock appeared, so they informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Prophet's Instructions
The Prophet instructed them to pour water on it. The Prophet went to it and his stomach was tied due to hunger. He took an implement, thrice then struck the rock and it turned into a heap of sand.
Food Preparation
Jaabir asked permission to go home and then asked his wife if they had anything to eat. She had a measure of barley and a young she-goat. She ground the barley, kneaded it, prepared the she-goat, slaughtered it, and cooked the food. Jaabir invited the Prophet along with two of his companions.
Act of Generosity
The Prophet asked the Muslims to gather at Jaabir's house. The Prophet saw Jaabir's modesty and the little provisions he had. Jaabir offered a handful of barley and a young she-goat, and the Prophet fed all the gathered people.

Story of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Salman al-Farisi
Once, a group of people gathered around Salman al-Farisi. They asked him, "How much food do you have?" He replied, "Yes." The people were saddened by his response, so they informed the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about Salman's situation.
The Prophet (PBUH) came to Salman and said, "Take and invite." The Prophet took some meat, sharing it generously among the people. He kept on distributing until everyone was full. The ovens and cooking pots were filled back up. Then, the Prophet said, "Eat and return (the rest)." They continued to eat and share for the whole day.
This incident is narrated by Imam Bukhari in his authentic collection through Khalad bin Yahya from Abdul Wahid bin Ayman.
Prophet Muhammad's Miracle for Salman
Once, Salman al-Farisi was removing stones in a trench when a large stone became too heavy for him. The Prophet (PBUH) saw this and approached Salman. When the Prophet saw the difficulty Salman was facing, he stepped down to help him. The Prophet took the tool from Salman's hand and hit the rock with it. Lightning-like sparks appeared beneath the tool with each strike. Salman was puzzled and asked the Prophet about this miraculous event.
The Prophet explained that the first strike symbolized the opening of Yemen by Allah's will. The second strike represented another divine incident, and the third strike reflected a separate divine blessing.
This account is mentioned in Ibn Hisham's biography.

Opening of Lands
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Allah - glory be to Him - opened for me the lands of Greater Syria and the Maghreb. And as for the third, indeed Allah opened for me the East.
Historical Narrative
Ibn Ishaq narrated, from Abu Hurairah, that during the time of Umar, Uthman, and thereafter, a saying was popular: "Conquer what is presented to you. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Abu Hurairah, you will not conquer any city that you will not enter until the Day of Judgment, except by Allah's will. And indeed, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was given its keys."
Salman the Persian
Muhammad bin Ishaq mentioned a story involving Salman, which we have highlighted earlier. This account was relayed from Mu'adh bin Abu Al-Aswad, from Urwah, from Musa bin Uqba.
It was reported by Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Hafiz that the Prophet (peace be upon him) drew the ditch during the Year of the Confederates from Ujum As-Samur on the side of Bani Haritha, when the ink had dried. He then cut forty cubits between every ten. There was a dispute between the Muhajirun and the Ansar over Salman the Persian, a strong man. The Ansar said, "Salman is one of us," while the Muhajirun said, "Salman is one of us." The Prophet (peace be upon him) settled the dispute by stating, "Salman is one of us, the people of the household."

Amr ibn Awf and the Miraculous Event of the White Rock
Amr ibn Awf narrated: "It was myself, Salman, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, Nu'man ibn Muqarrin, and six Ansar, standing forty cubits away. We reached the thuddy*, and Allah brought out from the belly of the trench a round, white rock. It shattered our iron and split upon us. We said: 'O Salman, go to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and inform him of the news of this rock. If we leave it, it will soon be leveled. If he orders us concerning it, we do not wish to exceed his command.' Salman rode until he reached the Messenger of Allah, who was striking a Turkish cap. Salman said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by our parents, a white rock emerged from the trench, breaking our iron and splitting upon us until neither a little nor much could be woven into it. Command us regarding it, as we do not wish to exceed your limits.' The Messenger of Allah descended into the trench with Salman, and we descended from one fissure to the next. The Messenger of Allah took the pickaxe from Salman and struck the rock a blow that split it, casting a brilliant light that illuminated the entire space between its two sides - like a lamp in a dark room. The Messenger of Allah raised a great Takbir**, and the Muslims followed him. Then he struck the rock a second time, splitting it and emitting a light that shone between its two sides, like a companion in the depths of a dark night. The Messenger of Allah again raised a Takbir of victory, and the Muslims followed. And then he struck the rock a third time, breaking it, and a flash of light shone forth that illuminated the space between its two sides, resembling a lamp in the darkness of a house. The Messenger of Allah raised a victorious Takbir, and the Muslims followed. Then he took Salman's hand and said: 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah!' "
Amr ibn Awf ibn Zaid ibn Malhah al-Muzani, witnessed the Battle of the Trench, also known as the Battle of the Allies, and he passed away during the governorship of Mu'awiyah due to injury.
*thuddy: a segment of the trench
**Takbir: the phrase "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest) uttered as an expression of the greatness and majesty of Allah

Prophetic Prophecy of Victory
In a unique event, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) turned to his companions and inquired if they saw what Salman had seen. They confirmed and expressed their amazement at witnessing the Prophet's supplication manifesting as lightning, illuminating castles of Persia and Yemen, symbolizing impending victory for the Muslim community.
First Sign of Victory
Upon the Prophet's first strike, the lightning revealed the grandeur of the Persian kingdoms, affirming Gabriel's revelation regarding the forthcoming triumph of the Muslim ummah.
Second Sign of Victory
With the second strike, the lightning disclosed the formidable fortresses of Rome, reinforcing the promise of victory delivered by Gabriel.
Third Sign of Victory
The final strike revealed the brilliance of the palaces of Yemen, again foretelling the imminent triumph of the Muslim community, leaving the believers elated and grateful for Allah's promise.
Reaction of Hypocrites
In contrast, the hypocrites mocked this prophecy, questioning its validity and ridiculing the believers for having faith in it. However, the Quran condemns their skepticism and disdain for divine promises, warning against disbelief and arrogance.

Hadith about the Miracle of the Prophet (PBUH) while Digging the Trench
It was narrated to me by Abu al-Hasan: Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan informed us, narrating from Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar, who said: Ahmad ibn Ghalib ibn Harb told us, saying: Hawdha narrated to us, saying: Awf narrated to us from Maymun al-Zahrani, who said: Al-Bara' ibn Azib al-Ansari told me that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) commanded us to dig the trench, there was a huge and sturdy rock in some part of the trench. The tools could not break it. So, they complained to the Prophet (PBUH). Upon seeing it, he took the pickaxe, recited "Bismillah," and struck it, breaking one-third. He then said, "Allahu Akbar! I have been given the keys of Greater Syria. By Allah, I can see the red palaces of its cities." He struck it a second time, cutting another third and said, "Allahu Akbar! I have been given the keys of Persia. By Allah, I can see the white palace of Madain." Finally, he struck it a third time, recited "Bismillah," and shattered the rest of the rock. He said, "Allahu Akbar! I have been given the keys of Yemen. By Allah, I can see the gates of Sanaa from where I am standing."
