It was narrated to us by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz, who said: It was narrated to us by Abu Muhammad Ja'far ibn Harun ibn Ibrahim Al-Nahwi in Baghdad, who said: It was reported to us by Ishaq ibn Sadqa ibn Subayh, who said: It was narrated to us by Khalid ibn Makhlad. "We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the year of Hudaybiyyah. It rained on us one night. The Messenger of Allah prayed Fajr for us, then turned towards us and said: 'Do you know what your Lord has said?' We said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said: 'Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, said: There are among My slaves who believe in Me and disbelieve in Me. As for he who said, "We have been rained upon by the mercy of Allah and by His grace," then he is a believer in Me and a disbeliever in the stars. And as for he who said, "We have been rained upon by such-and-such a star," then he is a believer in the stars and a disbeliever in Me."

Additionally, Al-Bukhari reported it in prayer from al-Qa'nabi, in the prayer for rain from Isma'il ibn Abi Uwayss, both from Malik, and in Tawhid in a concise form from Masdad.

Furthermore, Muslim reported it in Kitab al-Iman, Chapter: Clarifying disbelief of the one who says we are given rain by such-and-such, from Yahya ibn Yahya, Hadith (125).
