Baab Ma Ja'a fi Mawt Khusraa wa Ikbaar an-Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam bi dhalik

Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ar-Rudhbary informed us that Isma'il ibn Muhammad as-Saffar said that Ahmad ibn al-Walid al-Fahham informed them that Shadhan Aswad ibn 'Amir said that Hammad ibn Salamah relayed from Humayd, from al-Hasan, from Abu Bakra that a man from the people of Fars came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "Indeed, my Lord has killed your Lord," meaning Khusraa. It was said to him, meaning the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "Indeed, he has appointed his daughter as his successor." The man then said, "A people will not succeed who are led by a woman."

It has been narrated in the hadith of Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi that when he returned to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from Caesar, he found emissaries of Khusrau negotiating in Sana'a. This was because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had written to Khusrau, and Khusrau had written to his governor in Sana'a threatening him, saying, "Do you not suffice with a man who has come from your land calling me to his religion, either you should take care of him or I will deal with you." The governor of Sana'a then sent a message to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. When the Prophet read the letter, he left them for fifteen nights and then said to them, "Go to your governor and say, 'Indeed, my Lord has killed your Lord tonight,' so leave from here."

Translation of Classical Arabic Text

They informed him, Dihyah said: Then the news came that Kisra was killed that night. And Dawud ibn Abi Hind also narrated it from Aamir Ash-Sha'bi in the same meaning, and mentioned the worker who wrote to him Kisra saying: 'Badhan, the King of Yemen'. When the letter reached Badhan, he chose two men from the people of Persia and wrote to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding what Kisra had written about his return to his people or his arrangement to meet him one day. Then he mentioned the meaning in the Prophet's saying and conveyed to him that my Lord killed his Lord, and it happened as he was informed.

Chain of Narration

Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz and Abu Saeed ibn Abi 'Amr reported to us, they said: Abu Al-'Abbas, Muhammad ibn Ya'qoub reported to us, he said: Ahmed ibn Yunus reported to us, he said: Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash reported to us from Dawud, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who said: Sa'd came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "Indeed, the face of Sa'd is good." He meant, "Good." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, Kisra has perished or been killed." So, he said: "May Allah curse Kisra, he was the first of people to perish, the Persians, then the Arabs." It is possible that the Prophet informed the messenger of Kisra's demise at the time he was killed, then the news reached Sa'd from elsewhere, so he went to the Prophet and informed him of Allah confirming the words of His Messenger.

Additional Narration

As reported to me by Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz, he said: Abu 'Amr Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmed Al-Qadi reported to me. He said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Khuzaymah reported to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Yahya reported to us, he said: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd ibn Ibrahim reported to us from his father, from Salih, who said: Ibn Shihab said: Abu Salamah informed me that it reached him that whilst Kisra was in the gathering of his kingdom, someone was appointed as a spokesman or a protester was presented to him. The truth was presented to him, and Kisra was not shocked except that the man walked with a stick in his hand. He said: "O Kisra, do you have any interest in Islam before..."

Story of the King Khusraw and the Man with the Stick

Once, a man approached King Khusraw and asked him, "Shall I break this stick?" Khusraw replied, "Yes, go ahead and break it." The man then left, and Khusraw inquired about him to his guards, who denied letting anyone enter his presence. Khusraw became angry with them and left them. Shortly after, the man returned with the stick and asked Khusraw, "Do you have faith in Islam before I break this stick?" Khusraw replied, "Yes, do not break it." The man broke the stick anyway, and at that moment, Allah destroyed Khusraw. This incident was narrated by different narrators, such as Muhammad bin Yahya and others.

Authenticity of the Story

The authenticity and variations of this story were verified and narrated by different scholars, including Abu Mohammed Al-Ḥasan ibn Abu Abdullah Al-Farsi.
