Chapter on the Message of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to Kisra Ibn Hurmuz and his Letter to Him, His Supplication in His Presence to Tear His Letter, and the Response of Allah to His Supplication and the Confirmation of His Statement Regarding His Destruction, the Destruction of His Army, and the Opening of His Treasures

Abu Al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan reported to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ubayd As-Saffar informed us, saying: Ubayd ibn Sharik narrated to us, saying: Yahya reported to us. And Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq the jurist reported to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Milhan narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Bukayr informed us, saying: Al-Laith reported to us, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, who said: Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah reported to us that Abdullah ibn Abbas informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent his letter to Kisra and commanded him to deliver it to the ruler of Bahrain, who then delivered it to Kisra. When Kisra read it, he tore it apart. Ibn Musayyab said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated against them to be torn apart, each one by one.

Narrated by Al-Bukhari in Sahih, from Yahya ibn Bukayr, and in my book from Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz, in a version I did not find in the auditory transmission. But it was reported to me through permission that Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Salih ibn Hani informed them, saying: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn An-Nadr Al-Jarudi reported to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yahya informed us, saying: Ahmad ibn Salih narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, who said: Abdur Rahman narrated it. Reported by Al-Bukhari in Al-Jihad, Fath Al-Bari (6: 108).

Al-Rahman ibn Abd al-Qaari’ said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, once stood on the pulpit to address the people. He praised and glorified Allah, and made the testimony of faith. Then he said, “Indeed, I intend to send some of you to the kings of the non-Arabs. Do not differ in me as the Children of Israel differed about Jesus, son of Mary.” The Muhajirun said, “O Messenger of Allah, we will not differ about you at all. So command us, and send us.” The Prophet then sent Shuja’ ibn Wahb to Kisra. Shuja’ set out until he reached Kisra while he was in al-Mada’in. He sought permission to enter, and Kisra ordered for his hospitality and embellishment. He then granted permission for the noblemen of Persia to enter, and then for Shuja’. When Shuja’ entered, Kisra ordered for the letter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to be taken from him. Shuja’ said, “No, not until I fulfill the order of the Messenger of Allah.” Kisra then granted him permission, took the letter, and as he read it he found, “From Muhammad, the servant of Allah and His Messenger, to Kisra, the Great of Persia.” This angered him from the beginning, and he tore up the letter before knowing its contents. He then ordered for Shuja’ ibn Wahb. When Shuja’ was taken out, and after he witnessed that, he sat on his camel and left. He remarked, “I do not care which path I take once I have delivered the letter of the Messenger of Allah.”

After Kisra’s anger subsided, he sent for Shuja’ to come to him, but Shuja’ could not be found. They searched for him in al-Hira but he was not found, so they looked for him in al-Mada’in. When Shuja’ arrived before the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, he informed him of what had transpired with Kisra and the tearing of the letter from the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Kisra has torn his kingdom.”

This messenger and the one who sent him before were in agreement regarding the tearing of the letter, with the former informing about Kisra’s tearing of his kingdom. There are conflicting reports regarding who handed the letter to Kisra, and the primary narration is more reliable. And Allah knows best.

Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan narrated from Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar, who narrated from al-Abbas ibn al-Fadl al-Asfatayi, who said that Abu al-Walid told him, who said that Abu Awana narrated from Simak from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said that the Messenger of Allah said, “A group of Muslims or believers will definitely open treasures.”

Translation of Classical Arabic Text

In the palace of Kisra, which is in the White Palace. Muslim narrated in Sahih from Qutaiba and others from Abu Awana. Abu Mansur Az-Zafari, Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ziyad Al-Alawi, may Allah have mercy on him, informed us, saying: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Duhaim Al-Shaibani in Kufa, narrated to us from Ahmad ibn Hazim ibn Abi Garza, who narrated from Amr ibn Hammad, who narrated from Asbat, from Simak, from Jabir ibn Samura that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "A group from my Ummah will conquer the treasure of Kisra that is in the White Palace." I and my father were among them, and we gained one thousand dinars from it.

It was reported by Muslim in: Book of Tribulations, chapter: The Hour will not come until a man passes by a grave wishing to be in the place of the deceased, Hadith (78), p. 2237.
