When he finished his address, he called 'Ali ibn Abi Talib who was suffering from sore eyes. He spat in his eyes, supplicated for his recovery, gave him the flag, and the Muslims followed him. They responded to the call of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and prepared themselves with patience.

Incident at the Battle of Khaybar
The Muslims were stationed at the fortress when the Jews launched an attack. During the skirmish, Sa'd, a Jewish warrior, was killed, causing the Jews to retreat. In retaliation, a Jewish man named Marhab gathered his weapons and arrogantly challenged the Muslims. He declared, "Who will stand against me?" Upon hearing this, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked, "Who will face this man?" Muhammad ibn Maslamah stepped forward and bravely confronted Marhab, swearing that he was ready to face death.
The Duel
As the two warriors clashed, a tree obstructed their view, creating a barrier between them. Each time one of them attempted to strike, the other would dodge the blow. Eventually, Muhammad managed to strike Marhab, causing his sword to fall. Seizing this opportunity, Muhammad finished off Marhab with a decisive blow.
There were claims that Muhammad stumbled during the confrontation, to which he responded, "Khaybar indeed knows that I am Muhammad, a warrior by birth. If you desire sweetness, I possess strength and bravery."

The Killing of Marhab
When the lions advanced fiercely and hindered their advance, stabbing at times and striking at others, it is indeed the protector of the protector that should be approached.
Hadith Narration
It was narrated to us by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz who said: It was narrated to us by Abu Abdullah Al-Asbahani, who said: Hasan ibn Al-Jahm told us, who said: Al-Husayn ibn Al-Faraj told us, who said: Muhammad ibn Umar told us, who said: Muhammad bin Al-Fadl bin Ubayd Allah bin Rafi bin Khadijah narrated from his father, from Jabir, who said that Muhammad ibn Umar and Zakariyya ibn Zaid narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Sufyan, from his father, from Salamah bin Salamah, and Majma Bni Ya'qub, from his father, from Majma Bni Jariyah who said: Indeed, Muhammad bin Muslimah killed Marhab.
Details of the Incident
It is said that Marhab was carried by Ali bin Abi Talib when Ali dropped him at the gate, Marhab asked to be prepared by Muhammad, but Muhammad replied: "Taste the death as my brother Mahmoud did." Ali then came and struck Marhab's neck and took his belongings. They disputed before the Prophet about the belongings, and Muhammad said, "O Messenger of Allah, I only cut off his legs for him to taste death, although I was capable of finishing him off." Ali then confirmed and gave the belongings to the Prophet, including the sword, spear, helmet, and shield, revealing in his sword a Jewish inscription from the people of Tayma that this was Marhab's sword, whoever tastes it is discontent.
Sources
The narration can be found in the biography of Ibn Hisham (3:289) and Al-Waqidi's "Maghazi" (2:655). The specific incident of Marhab's killing is mentioned in Al-Waqidi's "Maghazi" (2:657).

First Encounter with the Enemy
Al-Waqidi narrates: Usamah ibn Zaid told us that Ja'far ibn Mahmoud informed us that the first to emerge from the forts of Khaybar to duel was Al-Harith, the brother of Marhab. Ali killed him, and the companions of Al-Harith retreated to the fortress.
The Encounter with Amir
Al-Waqidi continues: Muhammad ibn Al-Fadl ibn Abdullah ibn Rafi ibn Khadij narrated to us from his father from Jabir ibn Abdullah that Amir, a tall and sturdy man, appeared. When Amir came forth, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do you see him as tall as five cubits while calling for defecation?" Then Ali ibn Abi Talib went out and struck him repeatedly until he disabled him. Amir then tried to grab his weapon but Ali finished him off.
Yasir's Determination
Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us that Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub told us that Ahmed ibn Abd Al-Jabbar informed us that Yunus narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq that Yasir went out reciting:
Khaybar knows well that I am Yasir,
A brave warrior with no fear;
When the lions advance to charge,
Their armor they must quickly discard;
For in my shield, death is near.
Safiyyah, upon seeing her son Zubeir go to fight, exclaimed, "O Messenger of Allah, will my son be killed?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "No, but your son will kill him, God willing." Zubeir went out saying:
Khaybar knows well that I am Zabbar,
Advancing towards an oppposing rabble;
For my character has no speck,
And I charge not as a reckless wreck.

The Killing of Yassir and Marhab: A Controversial Incident
Ibn Humam Al-Majd and Ibn Al-Akhyar... Yassir, do not be deceived by the gathering of disbelievers, as their gathering is like a fleeting mirage...
It was mentioned that Yazid was the one who killed Yassir (35). This incident is recorded in Ibn Hisham's biography (3:289) without mentioning the details. A group of companions of the Prophet firmly asserted that Muhammad ibn Maslamah was the one who killed Marhab. However, it is confirmed in Sahih Muslim, based on the narration of Salamah ibn Al-Akwa, that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the one who killed Marhab.
This account is also found in the narration of Buraydah ibn Al-Hasib and Abu Nafi', the companion of the Prophet, may peace be upon him. Some scholars have confirmed the authenticity of this narration. The narration in Sahih Muslim can be preferred for two reasons: firstly, due to its strong chain of transmission, and secondly, because Jabir did not witness the battle of Khaybar as mentioned by Ibn Ishaq and Muhammad ibn Umar. It was witnessed by Salamah, Buraydah, and Abu Rafi', who were more knowledgeable about the incident. As for the claim that Muhammad ibn Maslamah wounded Marhab in the legs and Ali finished him off, this account contradicts the narrations of Salamah and Abu Rafi', and only Allah knows the truth.
Abu Umar, may Allah have mercy on him, affirmed that Ali was the one who killed Marhab, a view supported by Ibn Athir, who considered it the most authentic account.
