Hadith of Suwayd ibn al-Samit

Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz reported to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub informed us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abdul-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: Yunus ibn Bukayr related to us from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Asim ibn Umar ibn Qatadah [al-Ansari] narrated to me, from elders of his people, they said: Suwayd ibn al-Samit, the brother of Bani Amr ibn Awf, came to Mecca as a pilgrim or a performer of 'Umrah. His people used to call him 'al-Kamil' due to his age, skin, and hair.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, approached him and invited him to Allah and Islam. Suwayd said: "Perhaps the one with you has something similar to what I have." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: "What do you have?" Suwayd replied: "A page of wisdom from Luqman." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, requested to see it, and Suwayd presented it to him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This is good speech, but what I have is better: the Quran revealed by Allah as guidance and light." He recited the Quran to Suwayd, invited him to Islam, and Suwayd did not hesitate and said, "This is indeed a good saying," then he left and went to Medina. However, he was later killed by the Khazraj tribe, while some men from his people believed he was killed as a Muslim, and his killing took place before the Battle of Bu'ath.

[Source: Additional information from the biography of Ibn Hisham. In the biography of Ibn Hisham, he mentioned some of Suwayd's poems and stories. (2:35). 'Majalla' refers to Luqman's wisdom. 'Bu'ath' is the place where a war occurred between the Aws and the Khazraj tribes, and this account is also mentioned by Ibn Hisham in his biography (2:35-36).]
