Chapter on Following Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum
In this chapter, we learn about the tradition regarding the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, and the evidence of his prophethood.
Transmission of the Tradition
It was narrated by Abu al-Husayn: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Qattan in Baghdad, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Durustawayh, who narrated from Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, who narrated from Ubayd Allah ibn Musa, and Abdullah ibn Raja', known as Abu Umar al-Ghudani, who narrated from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara', who said:
"Abu Bakr bought a riding camel from Azib for thirteen silver coins. Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said to Azib: 'Send al-Bara' to bring it to my camel.' Azib replied: 'No, until you tell us how you and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, acted when you both left and the polytheists were seeking you.' Abu Bakr responded, 'We fled from Mecca at night, sustaining ourselves through the day and night until we appeared in the daylight. The midday heat made me see a shadow resembling a rock. I approached it and found a remaining part of the shadow. I leveled it out, spread a cloak for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, and said, 'Lie down, O Messenger of Allah.' He lay down, and I went to scan the area for any traces of pursuit. I saw a shepherd driving his sheep towards the rock, seeking shade — just as we were. I inquired, 'Whose servant are you, young boy?' He replied, 'I belong to a man from the Quraysh,' and named him. I recognized the man and asked, 'Do your sheep have any milk?' He answered, 'Yes.' I then asked, 'Can you milk them for me?' He agreed, and I asked him to wipe the udder dust off, followed by his hands. He proceeded to show me by crossing one hand over the other. He then milked a cup of milk for me, which I took to the Messenger of Allah."
Note: The term "Kathbah" refers to a small portion of milk or food that one collects or gathers, and a large amount is called "Kathb al-Nihaayah."

Healing through Prophetic Intercession
The Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, was given a cup of milk with a piece of bread. I poured the milk until the bottom cooled. I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, and found him awake. I asked, "Would you like to drink, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, drank until I was pleased. Then I said, "It is time to depart, O Messenger of Allah." He replied: "Let's leave." As people were searching for us, none but Suraaqah ibn Maalik met us, riding his horse. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, the pursuit has caught up to us." He said, "Do not be grieved, Allah is with us."
As he got closer, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, the pursuit has caught up to us," and I wept. He asked, "What makes you cry?" I said: "By Allah, it is not my own self that makes me cry, but I weep for you." He then prayed for him, "O Allah! Protect us as You wish." The horse stumbled and its belly touched the ground. It then leaped up, and Suraaqah said to the Prophet, "O Muhammad, I know this is your doing. So, pray to Allah to save me from what I am in. By Allah, I will blind those who come after me in pursuit. This is my necklace, take a portion from it. You will pass by my camels and livestock at such and such a place. Take what you need from them."
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, replied: "We do not have any need for your camels and livestock." He then prayed for him, and Suraaqah headed back to his companions. The Messenger of Allah continued on his journey until he reached Madinah at night.

Hadith on the Migration of the Prophet (PBUH)
Abu Bakr visited the Prophet (PBUH) at his home and bought a riding beast from him. They departed after the sun had set, followed by Suraaqah ibn Maalik. While traveling, they found themselves in a rocky land and Abu Bakr expressed concern. The Prophet (PBUH) reassured him, saying, "Do not grieve, for indeed Allah is with us." The Prophet then prayed for protection, and miraculously, their pursuers were unable to find them. Upon their safe return, the Prophet declared, "You have been spared any difficulty here," and everyone they met after that returned anything they had taken.
This hadith is reported by Muslim from Salamah ibn Shaybah and also by Bukhari from another chain through Zuhayr ibn Mu'awiyah.

- Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan reported from Ahmad ibn Ubayd as-Saffar, who narrated from Ibn Milhan, who heard from Yahya ibn Bukayr, who was informed by Layth, from 'Uqayl.
- Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz reported from Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Abdullah, narrating from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who heard from Muhammad ibn Yahya, who was informed by Abu Salih, reported by Layth, narrating from 'Uqayl, who quoted from Ibn Shihab, and from Abdur Rahman ibn Malik al-Mudlij, a relative of Suraaqah ibn Maalik.

Surāqah ibn Juʿshum's Encounter with the Quraysh
Surāqah ibn Juʿshum narrated that he heard Surāqah ibn Mālik ibn Juʿshum say: "Messengers of the disbelieving Quraysh came to us, offering a blood money for killing or capturing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr. While I was sitting among the Banu Mudlij tribe, a man approached us and said, 'O Surāqah! I have seen a dust cloud by the coast; I believe it's Muhammad and his companions.' I recognized them and told him they were not the ones. However, I noticed some specific individuals approaching closely.'
He continued: 'I left the gathering and entered my house. I immediately ordered my maid to bring my horse and I rode it, concealing it behind a sand dune. I took my spear, emerged from the house, and began walking towards my horse. I mounted it and approached them, but as I neared, my horse stumbled, throwing me off balance. I fell and grabbed my quiver, pulling out arrows to determine if I should harm them or not. Despite my reluctance, I finally decided not to harm them. I mounted my horse again, brandished the quiver, and approached until I heard the recitation of the Messenger of Allah, with Abu Bakr watching for signs of pursuit.'
'As my horse's reins were slipping from my hands, I was almost near the ground, fearing to be overtaken. This was the culmination of Surāqah ibn Mālik's intense situation as he almost apprehended the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr.'

Encounter along the Way
As I dismissed them, I admonished them, and they accelerated. I stood up, and as she almost put forth her hands, when she stood there, it was like traces of her hands were glittering in the sky, resembling smoke. So, I swore by the reins to let go of the one I least wished harm upon, and I called out to both of them with assurance. They stopped for me, and I mounted my horse until I reached them. When what I had experienced of being detained from them hit me, I realized that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was going to appear. I said to him: "Some of your people have set a ransom for you both." I informed them of what people intended regarding them, and presented to them provisions and supplies, but they did not favor me with anything. The only thing they asked was for me to keep their secret. So, I requested them to write me a farewell document that would suffice, and 'Amir ibn Fuhayrah wrote for me a parchment from 'Udum. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed, narrated by Al-Bukhari in Sahih from Yahya ibn Bukayr from Al-Layth.
Witnesses' Testimony
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qat'ani from Baghdad reported to us that Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Attab al-'Abdi informed us that Al-Qasim ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Abi Uways informed me that Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn 'Uqbah, from his uncle Musa ibn 'Uqbah, told us from Ibn Shihab, who heard from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum al-Mudlij, that his father Malik informed him that his brother Suraqah ibn Ju'shum told him:
"When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left Makkah to migrate to Madinah, the Quraysh promised one hundred camels to whoever would bring him back. As I was sitting in my clan's assembly, a man approached us and said: 'By Allah! I saw a caravan of three people passing by swiftly, and I think one of them is Muhammad.' I signaled to him with my eyes to be quiet and said: 'They are merely the sons of so and so looking for their lost camel.'"

Encounter with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
After an incident, a man rode in pursuit of his lost camel. As he approached a group of people, he fell from his horse twice. Despite not meaning harm, the astonishment caused some to raise their weapons. The man resorted to seeking intervention from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
Seeking Resolution
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) inquired about the man's intention, to which he requested a written document as a sign of reconciliation. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) complied and handed the man the document. Thereafter, the man quietly left without mentioning the previous events.
Return to the Prophet
When the city of Mecca was conquered and the Prophet was at ease, the man returned to meet the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with the document in hand. However, on the way, he was accidentally surrounded by a group of Ansar warriors, mistaking him for someone else. Despite the tension, the man successfully approached the Prophet.
Recognition and Acceptance
Arriving before the Prophet on his camel, the man lifted the document, declaring its content. The Prophet acknowledged the document, signifying a day of fulfilment and righteousness. Subsequently, the man embraced Islam and sought clarification on specific matters from the Prophet.
Accounted by Ibn Shihab, it was only a misplaced item and an earlier incident that the man sought clarification about from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

Conversation between Suraqah and Abu Jahl
Surаqаh аskеd Abu Jаhl, "If I wаtеr my camel, will I get а rеwаrd?" Thе Mеssеngеr оf Allаh (peace be upon him) rеspondеd, "Yеs, for еvеry drор of wаtеr." Surаqаh wаtеrеd his cаmеl аnd thеn wеnt to thе Mеssеngеr оf Allаh (peace be upon him) аnd sаid, "This is my truе word." Thе Mеssеngеr оf Allаh (peace be upon him) аgrееd with him.
Convincing Abu Jahl
In thе mаttеr of Surаqаh, Abu Jаhl hаd somе doubts аnd аttemptеd to discrеdit thе truth of Prophet Muhammаd (peace be upon him). Surаqаh rеbukеd him with vеrsеs pointing to thе virtuеs of thе Propht Muhammаd (peace be upon him), chаllеnging him to find аnyonе who could match him.
Surаqаh's Wаrning to Bаni Mudlij
Upon Suraqah's return, hе bеgаn shаring whаt hе hаd witnessed from thе Propht Muhammаd (peace be upon him). This cаusеd thе qurауsh lеаdеrs to fear thаt this could lеаd to mаnу pеoplе аccеpting Islаm. Abu Jаhl wrotе to Bani Mudlij, wаrning thеm аbout Surаqаh's support for Muhammаd (peace be upon him), аnd his fеаr thаt thе comprеssion would cаusе strifе аnd dеstructiоn.

Abu Bakr's Honesty
In the Shamieh biography, it is narrated that when Abu Bakr was asked about himself, he would say, "I am a seller." And when asked, "Who is with you?" he would reply saying, "A guide who guides me." This exemplifies the honesty and humility of Abu Bakr, the great companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Conclusion of Events
The second part of the book "Delail al-Nubuwwah" has been completed, detailing the life of the Prophet and the understanding of the legislation, organized into eight sections. The compiler, the Imam al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Bayhaqi, concluded this section and signaled the beginning of the third part in which he will discuss the Prophet's crossing with his companions and the events that demonstrate his prophethood.
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. The completion of this work was on the Thursday of the twelfth of Shawwal in the year 658 AH, at the hands of the humble servant of Allah: Abu al-Jood Khalil Ibrahim ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Ali al-Dimyati, also known as al-Manhaji al-Qurashi.
May Allah forgive him, his parents, and all the Muslims, and may His blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, his companions, and peace be upon them.

This translates to: "Chapter on what was narrated about the departure of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, with his uncle Abu Talib when he intended to leave for Shaam as a trader, and the vision of Bahira the monk about his characteristics and signs that he used as evidence that he was the promised Prophet in their books, peace be upon him and his family."

Chapter on what was reported about the Priests and Monks before God sent the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as a Messenger, based on what they found in their books about his emergence, the truthfulness of his message, and their use of it against the polytheists.
باب ما جاء في إخبار الأحبار والرهبان قبل أن يبعث الله النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم رسولا، بما يجدونه عندهم في كتبهم من خروجه، وصدقه في رسالته، واستفتاحهم به على أهل الشرك - 12 . Mentioned is the news of the Jew from the sons of Abd al-Ashhal.
ذكر خبر اليهودي من بني عبد الأشهل - 13 . The mention of the reason for the conversion to Islam of the sons of Sa'yah.
ذكر سبب إسلام ابني سعية - 14 . The mention of the reason for Salman the Persian's conversion to Islam, may Allah be pleased with him.

The narrative of Al-Juhani was mentioned, which came in his faintness, and he informed unequivocally that if he gives thanks to his Lord, then he believes in the sent Prophet and leaves the way of those who commit polytheism, thus he is misguided.

The narration of Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail [1] and Warqah bin Nawfal [2] is mentioned, and what is in [3] their narration from the effects of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.

جماع أبواب المبعث - 21 . The chapter of the time in which Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, was written as a prophet.
باب الوقت الذي كتب فيه محمد صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم نبيا - 22 . Chapter on the Age of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, when he was sent as a Prophet.
باب سن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم حين بعث نبيا - 23 . The chapter of the month in which it was revealed and the day on which it was revealed.
باب الشهر الذي أنزل عليه فيه واليوم الذي أنزل عليه فيه. - 24 . Chapter on the beginning of the Mission and the Revelation, and what appeared at that time of the stone and the tree submitting, and Waraqa bin Nawfal confirming it.

A chapter on those [who embraced Islam early] [1] among the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, and the signs that appeared to Abu Bakr, and what Talha heard from the monk's speech, and the signs that appeared to Ibn Mas'ud, and what Khalid bin Sa'id saw in his dream, and other stories like that.
باب من [تقدم إسلامه] [١] من الصحابة رضي الله عنهم، وما ظهر لأبي بكر من آياته، وما سمع طلحة من قول الراهب، وما ظهر لابن مسعود من آياته، وما رأى خالد بن سعيد في منامه، وغير ذلك - 27 . The beginning of the obligation upon the Messenger of Allah [65] - may Allah bless him and his family - then upon the people; and whatever was found in his assembly of Quraysh and his feeding them, from the blessing in his food.
باب مبتدأ الفرض على رسول الله [٦٥] صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ثم على الناس وما وجد في جمعه قريشا وإطعامه إياهم من البركة في طعامه - 28 . The text translates to: "The chapter on how Abu Lahab responded to the Prophet, God bless him and his family, when he called them to faith and what God Almighty revealed about him in the Quran. He swore that he would be burned in a fiery flame and his wife, the wood-carrier, would have a rope of twisted fiber around her neck. Not one of them converted to Islam until the news of the Islamic ruling became true and he would not break a similar oath."
باب ما رد أبو لهب على النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم حين دعاهم إلى الإيمان وما أنزل الله تعالى فيه من القرآن وقطع بأنه يصلى نارا ذات لهب وامرأته حمالة الحطب في جيدها حبل من مسد فلم يسلم واحد منهما حتى صار الخبر بقضية الإسلام صدقا ولا يقطع بمثل - 29 . Chapter on God's verse, Mighty and Sublime is He: "O Messenger, convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people" (5:67) [1] and what came regarding God's protection [exalted is He] [2] of him until he delivered the message, fulfilled the trust and advised the nation [3]. Peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
باب قول الله عز وجل: يا أيها الرسول بلغ ما أنزل إليك من ربك وإن لم تفعل فما بلغت رسالته والله يعصمك من الناس ٥: ٦٧ [١] وما جاء في عصمة الله [تعالى] [٢] إياه حتى بلغ الرسالة وأدى الأمانة ونصح الأمة [٣] صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم. - 30 . The title is: "The Statement of God Almighty: 'And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a hidden barrier.' 17:45" - The elaboration of this follows.
باب قول الله عز وجل وإذا قرأت القرآن جعلنا بينك وبين الذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة حجابا مستورا ١٧: ٤٥ [١] وما جاء في تحقيق ذلك - 31 . The chapter on the acknowledgment by the polytheists of Quraysh of the miraculous nature present in the Book of Allah [the Exalted] [1], and that it does not resemble anything from their languages, despite them being native speakers and masters of language.
باب اعتراف مشركي قريش بما في كتاب الله [تعالى] [١] من الإعجاز وأنه لا يشبه شيئا من لغاتهم مع كونهم من أهل اللغة وأرباب اللسان - 32 . Chapter on the mention of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari's conversion to Islam, may Allah be pleased with him, and what is in his story of his brother Anis's exoneration, who was one of the poets of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, from what they were saying about him, which was not appropriate. Along with his recognition of the miracle of the Quran, and then what it contains about Abu Dharr's sufficiency for thirty nights and a day with Zamzam water.
باب ذكر إسلام أبي ذر الغفاري رضي الله عنه وما في قصته من تنزيه [١] أخيه أنيس وهو أحد الشعراء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم عما كانوا يقولون فيه مما لا يليق به، واعترافه بإعجاز القرآن، ثم ما فيها من اكتفاء أبي ذر ثلاثين ليلة ويوم بماء زمزم - 33 . The chapter on the mention of the Islam of Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, and what it entails in terms of the counsel of the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. He, until Allah the Mighty and Majestic instilled faith in his heart with what was said.
باب ذكر إسلام حمزة بن عبد المطلب رضي الله عنه وما في ذلك من وعظ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم. إياه حتى ألقى الله عز وجل في نفسه الإيمان بما قال - 34 . This is an account of the conversion to Islam of Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. Upon reading the Quran, he appreciated its miraculous nature. And the signs that appeared from Allah Almighty in honoring His Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, with what he promised of his glorification and elevation.

باب من هاجر من أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إلى المدينة حين أريها دار هجرته قبل نزول الإذن له بالخروج - 66 . The chapter on the deceit of the polytheists towards the Messenger of Allah, Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, and Allah's protection of His messenger and informing him about that, until he migrated with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq - may Allah be pleased with him. باب ما جاء في بناء مسجد [١] رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم بالمدينة وما روى عن طلق بن علي اليمامي في ذلك ثم في رجوعه مع قومه بماء مضمضة النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم - 78 . The chapter on the mosque founded on righteousness and the excellence of praying therein.
باب المسجد الذي أسس على التقوى وفضل الصلاة فيه - 79 . Chapter on what the Chosen One (May God bless him and his family) reported when constructing his mosque and then his truthfulness appeared after his death. In it and in the likes of it, there is obvious evidence of the validity of his prophecy.
باب ما أخبر عنه المصطفى صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم عند بناء مسجده ثم ظهر صدقه بعد وفاته وفيه وفي أمثاله دلالة ظاهرة على صحة نبوته - 80 . This translates into English as:
Chapter: Mentioning the pulpit that was made for the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and what appeared when it was set up, and the signs of prophethood when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, sat on it. This happened during the construction of the mosque in Madinah.
باب ذكر المنبر الذي اتخذ لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وما ظهر عند وضعه وجلوس النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم من دلائل النبوة وكان ذلك عند بناء المسجد بمدة - 81 . "The section regarding the hardships the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, faced during the plague of Medina when they first arrived, and how God protected His Messenger, peace be upon him and his family, from it. Then the mentions about his prayer for their recovery and the removal of the plague from them to Al-Juhfa, and the acceptance of his supplication. Then his declaration of Medina as a sacred city, and his prayer for its people to be blessed."
