Translation of the Hadith of Iyas ibn Mu'adh al-Ashhali and the Hadith of the Day of Bu'ath

It was narrated to us by Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz Imla', who said: It was narrated to us by Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, who said: It was narrated to us by Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar, who said: It was narrated to us by Yunus ibn Bukayr, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Al-Husayn ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh narrated to me that Mahmoud ibn Labid, the brother of Bani Abd al-Ashhal, said: "When Anas ibn Rafi' came to Mecca accompanied by young men from Bani Abd al-Ashhal, among them was Iyas ibn Mu'adh seeking the allegiance from Quraysh against their people from Khazraj. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, heard about them, so he went to them, sat with them, and asked: 'Do you want something better than what you came for?' They asked: 'What is it?' He said: 'I am the Messenger of Allah, who was sent to invite people to worship Him alone and not associate anything with Him. He revealed the Book to me.' Then, he mentioned Islam to them, recited the Quran to them, and Iyas ibn Mu'adh, who was a young boy at the time, said: 'O people! By Allah, this is better than what you came for.' Abu al-Haysar Anas ibn Rafi' then took a handful of pebbles from the ground and hit Iyas on the face, saying: 'We have no need for you. By my life, we came for something else.'

Event of Bu'ath and the Death of Eeas Ibn Mu'adh

After the conflict at Bu'ath between the Aus and the Khazraj, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, remained silent and then departed from them to Medina. Soon after, Eeas Ibn Mu'adh passed away.

Witness Account of Mahmoud Ibn Labid

Mahmoud Ibn Labid reported that people from his tribe informed him that Eeas Ibn Mu'adh continued to glorify, praise, and magnify Allah until his last breath. They were certain that he had died as a true Muslim due to his expressions of faith during a gathering where he had heard directly from the Messenger of Allah.

Narrated Chain

Narrated by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafidh, through Abu Bakr Ahmad Ibn Jafar, through Abdullah Ibn Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, through his father, through Abu Usama Hisham Ibn Urwa, through his father, through Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: "On the day of Bu'ath, a day that Allah had made distinct for His Messenger, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, arrived in Medina. Their gathering dispersed, many were killed, and others were wounded. This was the day Allah had facilitated the entry of His Messenger into Islam."
