The Journey of Suhayb ibn Sinan to Medina

Introduction

In this narration, we delve into the account of Suhayb ibn Sinan's journey to Medina following the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This journey bears profound significance in illustrating the signs of prophethood.

Narration

It was narrated by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz that Ismail ibn Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Mikaal informed them, who was informed by Abdan Al-Ahwazi, who narrated from Zaid ibn Al-Harith, who narrated from Ya'qub ibn Muhammad Al-Zuhri, who narrated from Husayn ibn Hudhayfah ibn Saifi from his father who narrated from Suhayb:

The Prophet's Vision

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I was shown the location of your emigration, a land with two black hills and palm trees, either called Hafr or Yathrib." Then the Prophet, accompanied by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), set out for Medina. Suhayb had intended to join them but was restrained by youths from the Quraysh.

Confrontation and Solution

Despite the hurdles, Suhayb planned his escape at night. Pursuers tried to stop him, to which he offered them gold coins to let him go. His plan succeeded, and he reached Mecca, instructing them to dig under the gate's threshold.

Source of the Hadith

This narration can be found in Sahih Al-Bukhari, Book of Fugitives, Volume 3, Hadith 39, and further elaborated in the explanation.

The Meeting with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Under it (the tree) were the water containers. I went to so-and-so and took the two garments. I set out until I reached the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family, in Quba, before he had left it. When he saw me, he said, “O Abu Yahya! Profitable are the transactions, three-fold!” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, none preceded me to inform you, and none informed you except Gabriel (peace be upon him).”

[Reported by Al-Hakim in "Al-Mustadrak" (3:400), who authenticated its chain of transmission, although Al-Bukhari and Muslim did not report it, and Al-Dhahabi agreed with him.]
