Chapter on the Oath of Allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the Day of the Conquest of Mecca

It was narrated to us by Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmas al-Faqih, who said: It was narrated to us by Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Qattan, who said: It was narrated to us by Abu al-Azhar, who said: It was narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Shurahbeel. Abu Abdullah al-Anbari said: It was narrated to us by Ibn Juraih, who said: Abdullah ibn Uthman informed me that Muhammad ibn al-Aswad ibn Khalaf informed him that his father al-Aswad was present with the Prophet (peace be upon him) on the day of the conquest of Mecca when people were giving their oath of allegiance. He said: Sitting near Qarn Masfalah, which is where the houses of Ibn Abi Thumamah were, the residence of Ibn Samurah, and its surroundings. Al-Aswad said: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) sitting there and people, young and old, men and women, coming to pledge their allegiance to Islam and the testimony.

I asked: What is the testimony? He said: Muhammad narrated to me from al-Aswad that they pledged their allegiance to him on faith and the testimony that there is no god but Allah.
