Bab al-Wufud wa Fid Hawazin ala al-Nabi (saws)
In the chapter of the delegation of Hawazin to the Prophet (saws) at Ji'ranah, Muslims, the Prophet (saws) returned their captives to them.
Chain of Narrators
It was narrated to us by Abu Abdillah ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz, who reported from Abu al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abdus, who told us that Uthman ibn Saeed al-Darimi narrated, who reported from Yahya ibn Bukayr and Abdullah ibn Salih al-Misriyan, that Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to them, saying: Auqail informed us, from Ibn Shihab, that Urwah claimed that Marwan ibn al-Hakam and al-Musawir ibn Makhrimah informed him that when the delegation of Hawazin came as Muslims asking for their wealth and women, the Prophet (saws) stood up and said: "Who do you see with me?"
Location of Ji'ranah
Al-Zarqani explained Ji'ranah as a place between Makkah and Ta'if, closer to Makkah. It is where there is a mosque of the Prophet (saws) and close wells. It lies on the Makkah route to Iraq, approximately eighteen miles away from Makkah.
Events at Hudaybiyyah
During the Hudaybiyyah treaty, an agreement was made not to engage in warfare for ten years, which the disbelievers violated. The nobles of Banu Nifaṭah supported Khuzāʿah against treachery, being the people of the treaty with the Prophet (saws). Khuzāʿah sought the Prophet's (saws) help in Sha'ban, twenty-two months into the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.

Ruling on Choosing Between Captives and Wealth
In this narration, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave the Muslims the choice between retaining either the captives of war or taking their wealth. The Muslims were in a difficult situation after the Battle of Ta'if, and some preferred their captives over their wealth. Upon hearing their decision, the Prophet praised Allah and acknowledged their choice.
The Prophet's Guidance
The Prophet then addressed the Muslims, stating that their brethren from the captives had come repentant, and he had decided to return their captives to them if they wished. He also offered to give them a share of the first spoils received, as a gesture of goodwill. The people agreed to this arrangement.
Clarification and Agreement
Later, the Prophet urged the people to seek permission from all members of their group before finalizing the decision. The emissaries were sent back to the Prophet with the approval of the people. This incident concerning the choice between captives and wealth is reported by Bukhari through Sa'id ibn 'Ufair and 'Abdullah ibn Yusuf from al-Layth.

The Return of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Ta'if
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, departed from Ta'if in Shawwal to al-Ji'ranah, where the captives were. A delegation of Hawazin Muslims, including nine members of their nobility, approached him and embraced Islam, pledging allegiance to the Prophet. They then spoke to him about those who were injured, saying, "O Messenger of Allah! Among those injured are our mothers, sisters, aunts, and female relatives who are the honor of our tribes. We desire from Allah and from you, O Messenger of Allah, mercy, generosity, and nobility." The Prophet replied, "I will seek that for you." He then asked them, "Two options are available, which one do you prefer: I can seek the captives' release for you, or I can recover your wealth?" They responded, "You have given us the option between kinship and wealth. Kinship is dearer to us, and we do not argue about sheep or camels." The Prophet said, "That which belongs to Banu Hashim is yours, and I will speak on your behalf to the Muslims. Address them, declare your Islam, say that we are your brothers in faith, teach them the testimony of faith, and how to pray. I spent ten nights in plea for you; when the Prophet completed the Hijrah, they sought permission to speak to him. He granted it, and their speakers delivered persuasive speeches. They expressed their desire for the return of their captives. When the Prophet finished, he interceded for them, encouraged the Muslims to support them, and announced the return of what belonged to Banu Hashim. He gave people what little remained in their possession, and they asked for ransom.
Return of the Hawazin Captives
According to the narration by Ibn Shihab through 'Urwa ibn az-Zubair, Marwan ibn al-Hakam and al-Miswar ibn Makhrama informed that when the Prophet granted permission for the release of the Hawazin captives, some individuals returned, unsure if they had permission to go. They waited until their leaders informed them, and upon their return, they informed the Prophet that the people were content and had given permission.

Ibn Shihab said: Saeed ibn Al-Musayyib and Urwah ibn Az-Zubayr told me that the captives of the Hawazin tribe who were returned by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, were six thousand men, women, and children. He selected among them some women who belonged to men from the Quraysh tribe, including Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf and Safwan ibn Umayyah. These men had the choice of two women who belonged to them, and their people claimed that Uyaynah ibn Badr refused them and incited against their return.
A man from the Hawazin tribe said: "Do not stop urging us for what remains, for we have lost your virgin girls and sons, and we interceded for your mother Nusaykah." The Messenger of Allah then said: "Did that actually happen?" They replied: "Some of it did." They claimed that the Messenger of Allah ordered a man to go to Mecca and buy garments for the captives, making sure that no free person among them leaves except in a garment, and to detain the family of Malik ibn Awf in Mecca under the care of their aunt Umm Abdillah ibn Umayyah.
Al-Hafiz and Abu Saeed ibn Abi Amro narrated: Abu Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub informed us that Rabee' reported to them that Ash-Shafi'i mentioned in this story: Uyaynah was not pleased, so he took an old woman and said he would disgrace the Hawazin with her. He did not release her until someone said to him: "May Allah disfigure your face! By Allah, I have taken hold of her with a (skinny) breast, not full, and a belly without a protector and a cheek without fullness." He said: "You speak the truth."

Translation of the Text
It is narrated that we were with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, at the Battle of Hunayn. When some of their property and captives were seized from the Hawazin tribe, a delegation from the Hawazin tribe, who had embraced Islam, approached him. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have ancestry and a tribe, and we have suffered trials that were not hidden from you. So, extend your favor to us as Allah extended His favor to you." Their orator Zuhayr ibn Surad then stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, among the captives are your maternal aunts and uncles who used to nurture you. Had we taken Ibn Abi Shamir or Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir as captives and similar harm had befallen us from them as that which came from you, we would certainly hope for their return and ransom, and you are the best to honor such requests." He then recited some verses imploring the Messenger of Allah for generosity and mercy.
Requesting mercy from the Prophet in the second verse... Together, they send blessings upon him... This egg which fate has broken apart... War will cry havoc upon it... The people weighed down by sadness and hardship... If they are not swiftly met with blessings... O most beloved of humans when tested... Favor upon women whom you once suckled... The pearls gathered from her bosom...

Do Not Make Us Like Those Who Neglect Their Blessings
Do not make us like those who neglect their blessings and outstrip us, for we are a people who acknowledge favours. Even if our blessings are denied, we have a reward reserved after this day. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked his companions, "Do you love your children and wives more than your wealth?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, you have given us a choice between our loved ones and our wealth." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Whatever belonged to me and the family of Abd al-Muttalib is yours. When I stand to pray, say, 'We seek intercession with the Messenger of Allah to the Muslims and ask the Muslims to seek intercession with the Messenger of Allah for our children and wives. I will help you in that regard.”
Children and Wives Belonging to the Prophet
When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed Dhuhr, the people stood and asked, "What did he command them?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "What belonged to me and the family of Abd al-Muttalib belongs to you." The Muhajirun said, "What was not ours belongs to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." The Ansar said, "What was not ours belongs to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." Al-Aqra' ibn Habis said, "As for me and the sons of Tameem, no.” Al-Abbas ibn Mirdas as-Sulami said, "As for me and the sons of Sulaym, no." The sons of Sulaym said, "Instead, what was not ours belongs to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." Uyaynah ibn Badr said, "As for me and the sons of Fazarah, no." Then, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Whoever holds onto their rights will have six shares of first fruits that reach them. Return to the people their wives and children."
Conclusion
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mounted his ride, and the people followed him, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, take an oath upon us."

The Prophet's Teachings
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, demonstrates important values and teachings to his companions. When his cloak was taken from him under a tree, he uses this incident to illustrate the concepts of generosity, courage, and honesty. He emphasizes the importance of returning what belongs to others and warns against stinginess, cowardice, and deceitfulness.
Guidance on Taxes
The Prophet also addresses the issue of taxes or "khums." He explains that only a fifth of the spoils should be given, and this amount should be distributed wisely. He highlights the severe consequences of embezzlement, with thieves facing shame, punishment, and retribution on the Day of Judgment.
Principles of Ownership
Through his interaction with the Ansari man regarding a piece of rope, the Prophet teaches a valuable lesson about respecting ownership. The man initially wanted to use it but then realized he had no need for it, showing integrity by returning it. This exemplifies the Prophet's teachings on fairness, honesty, and accountability.

Story of Umar bin Al-Khattab's Vow to the Prophet (PBUH)
In the tribe of Banu Jumah were my uncles. I asked them to fix something for me from there, so that I may circle the Kaaba and then visit them once I am free. As I left the mosque, I noticed people were agitated. I asked them what was wrong, and they replied that the Prophet (PBUH) had returned our women and children. I told them that I left my wife with them in Banu Jumah, so they went and brought her back.
It was narrated by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz that Muhammad bin Ya'qub informed them, who was told by Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, who was told by Yunus bin Abd al-A'la, who was informed by Abu al-Walid, who heard from Al-Hasan bin Sufyan, who was told by Abu al-Tahir, who was informed by Ibn Wahb, who was told by Jarir bin Hazim, who heard from Ayub, who reported that Nafi' narrated that Abdullah bin Umar narrated the following:
Umar bin Al-Khattab asked the Prophet (PBUH) in Jirana, after returning from Ta'if: "O Messenger of Allah, during the time of ignorance, I vowed to observe I'tikaf for a day in the Sacred Mosque. What do you think?" The Prophet (PBUH) replied, "Go and observe I'tikaf for a day." The Prophet (PBUH) had gifted him a slave girl from the war spoils, and when the Prophet (PBUH) freed the slaves, Umar told Abdullah, "Go to that slave girl and set her free." This hadith is reported in Sahih Muslim by Abu al-Tahir.

Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar told us, saying: Yunus narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Abu Wajzah informed us that Uthman's slave girl was struck, and she was proposed to by her cousin, who was her husband and was not good. When the captives were returned, her leg was injured. She arrived in Medina during the time of Umar or Uthman. Uthman met her and gave her something in compensation. When Uthman saw his wife, he asked her, "Was this man more beloved to you than me?" She replied, "Yes, my husband and cousin."
As for Ali, he forgave his wife and taught her some Quran.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, asked the Hawazin delegation about Malik ibn Awf's whereabouts. They said he was in Taif. The Prophet directed them to inform Malik that if he (Malik) came to the Prophet as a Muslim, the Prophet would return to him his family and wealth and give him a hundred camels. Malik was brought to the Prophet and came to him from Taif at night. He feared retribution from the Thaqeef tribe, so the Prophet provided a mount for him. He (Malik) rode the horse until he reached his conveyance, where the Prophet had asked him to meet. He traveled and joined the Prophet at Ji'ranah or Makkah. The Prophet returned his family and wealth, and gave him a hundred camels. When Malik ibn Awf came to greet the Prophet, he said, "I have never seen or heard of anyone like him among all people. He is the most trustworthy and generous. When he decides to tell you about tomorrow, and the book boa retrieves its fangs, Ummul-Adh is warlike with all martial glory."

The Prophet Muhammad's Compassion and Generosity
In the midst of his companions, the Prophet Muhammad was like a lion among his cubs. He used to station himself in the thick of battle, unwavering. The Prophet employed this approach towards those from his people who embraced Islam, particularly among the tribes of Thumamah and Salamah. He would engage in battles alongside them, attacking the Quraysh until victory was achieved.
One day, a man named Abu al-Tufayl related a story about his encounter with the Prophet. He described seeing the Prophet dividing meat with a knife, and a woman approached him. The Prophet generously extended his cloak to her, and when Abu al-Tufayl asked about her identity, he was informed that she was the woman who had breastfed the Prophet when he was a child.
During the conquest of Hawazin, a young girl approached the Prophet, claiming to be his sister. He reassured her, emphasizing that if her claim was true, she would not be deprived of his care.
These accounts highlight the Prophet Muhammad's kindness, compassion, and respect for his companions and those around him.

The Prophet's Kindness and Consideration
One day, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was sitting when his father came. He spread out some of his clothing for him to sit on. Then, his mother came, and he spread out the other side of his clothing for her to sit on. After that, his brother approached from breastfeeding, so the Prophet, peace be upon him, took him and placed him on his lap.
