Chapter on the Islam of Salamah ibn Abi Salamah al-Jarmi

After the conquest and people entering into the religion of Allah in groups, as Allah, the Most Mighty and Majestic, said. We were informed by Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, who said: Abu Abdullah al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan ibn Ayyub al-Tusi informed us, stating: Abu Hatim Muhammad ibn Idris al-Hanzali narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Harb told us, saying: Hammad ibn Zaid informed us regarding Ayyub, saying: Abu Qilabah narrated to us from Amr ibn Salamah, and he said: "He is alive, will you not meet him to listen from him?" So, I met Amr and he narrated to me.

He said: "We were in Mamarr Al-Nas, and caravans passed by us. We asked them, 'What is this matter and what is for the people?' They replied: 'There is a Prophet who claims that Allah has sent him, and that Allah has revealed such and such to him. The Arabs used to criticize their Islam as soon as they conquered it and would say, 'Wait; if he appears, then he is a Prophet, so believe in him.' When the conquest occurred, every group announced their Islam. My father rushed and preceded my people in their Islam, so he stayed with them for a while, then came back to us. When we met him, he said: 'I come to you from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, truly, and he commands you to do such and such, and to pray such and such. When the time for prayer comes, let one of you call the Adhan and lead you in prayer; the one who knows most Quran.' They looked at our people's residents but could not find anyone who knew more Quran than me, so they asked me to lead them, and I was seven years old. I used to pray with them, and when I prostrated, a garment would fall on me, and a woman from Al-Hayy would say: 'Cover your reciter.' So, I wore a garment made of inter-twined Yemeni cloth worth six or seven dirhams, and I never felt as happy with anything as I did with that."

Translation of Classical Arabic Text

Narrated by Al-Bukhari in Al-Sahih from Sulaiman ibn Harb.

Al-Bukhari mentioned in: 64- Book of Battles Chapter (53) that Al-Laith narrated Hadith (4302), and Ibn Hajar mentioned it in Fath Al-Bari (8:22-23). Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said that Abu Dawood added in his narration, "Amr ibn Salamah said: 'I have never witnessed a group engaging in a sin except that I was their leader.'" This Hadith is a proof for the Shafi'i school in the Imamate of a distinguished child in obligations, which is a well-known controversial issue. Those who claim they did this by their own reasoning were not treated fairly. The Prophet, peace be upon him, did not witness it because it is a testimony of denial. Revelation time does not allow reporting what is prohibited, as Abu Said and Jabir argued that isolation is acceptable because they did it during the Prophet's time, and if it were forbidden, the Quran would have prohibited it. Similarly, they argued that covering the 'awrah during prayer is not a condition for its validity but a recommended practice, and it is valid without it because it happens unintentionally, allowing the possibility of it happening after knowing the ruling.
