The Prophet's Narration About the Timing of Their Arrival at Tabuk

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed his companions about their arrival at the spring of Tabuk, what became apparent during that time, and his wudu from that spring until its water increased. He also told Mu'adh ibn Jabal something that indicated his prophethood.

Chain of Transmission

Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Mihrajani al-Adl narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Muzakki narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Bushanji narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, saying: Malik narrated to us, from Abu az-Zubayr al-Makki, from Abu at-Tufayl: 'Amir ibn Wa'ilah reported that Mu'adh ibn Jabal informed him that they went out with Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) during the year of Tabuk. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined Dhuhr and 'Asr prayers and Maghrib and 'Isha prayers, and he delayed prayer one day. Then he went out and prayed Dhuhr and 'Asr together, then he went in, then he went out and prayed Maghrib and 'Isha together. He said: "You will come tomorrow, if Allah wills, to the spring of Tabuk. However, you will not reach it until the heat of the day has passed. Whoever reaches it should not touch its water until I come."

So we came, and two men had reached it before us. The spring was like a white sheet bubbling with water. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them if they had touched its water, and they said yes. He rebuked them and said whatever Allah willed. Then they scooped water bit by bit until it gathered in one place. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed wudu with that water, then poured it back into the spring, and it started to flow with abundant water. People drank from it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mu'adh: "If your life is prolonged, you will soon see its water here filling gardens and buildings. [1]

Translation of Hadith from Sahih Muslim

Muslim reported in Sahih Muslim from another perspective of Malik ibn Anas. It was narrated that Ziyadah mouthwashed with the water of that spring, from Urwah ibn az-Zubayr, and he said: "It remains so until this hour." This hadith can be found in Sahih Muslim, Book of the Virtues of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Chapter on the Miracles of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Hadith 10, page 1784.
