Arrival of the Delegation of Thaqif Tribe and their Acceptance of Islam
In this passage, it is narrated that after Abu Bakr and Ali, may Allah be pleased with them, had left for Hajj and designated Urwah ibn Mas'ud al-Thaqafi to represent them, he came to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Urwah embraced Islam and sought permission from the Prophet to return to his people. The Prophet, fearing for his safety, initially hesitated but eventually granted him permission. Urwah then returned to the Thaqif tribe but faced hostility when he invited them to Islam, advised them sincerely, and endured harm without retaliating. However, they eventually attacked him, causing his death at dawn. This incident marked a tragic end to his efforts in calling the Thaqif tribe to Islam.

The Killing of Urwah and the Visit of the Thaqif Delegation to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said when he reached the age of being murdered, his death would be like the killing of Urwah, the example of the companion of Yasin. He called his people to Allah, but they killed him. After his killing, a delegation of the Thaqif, consisting of about twelve men, including the elites of the Thaqif, came to the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, seeking reconciliation and justice. They saw that Mecca had been conquered and most of the Arabs had embraced Islam. Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah said, "O Messenger of Allah, allow me to honor my people, as I have a history of crimes among them." The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, replied, "I do not prevent you from honoring your people, but their place is where they can hear the Quran." It was a crime of Al-Mughirah against his people that he was an agent for the Thaqif, and he betrayed them, killing them in their sleep, and then brought their wealth to the Prophet, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, this is my portion of the wealth." The Prophet responded, "What do you expect?" He replied, "I was an agent for the Thaqif, but when I heard about you, I killed them and brought their wealth." The Prophet said, "We do not deceive, and I refuse to take a share of what you have." The Prophet Muhammad later hosted a delegation of the Thaqif in the mosque, providing them with tents so they could hear the Quran and observe the congregation. Whenever the Prophet gave a sermon, he did not mention himself. When the delegation of the Thaqif heard this, they said, "He commands us to testify that he is the Messenger of Allah, but he doesn’t testify in his sermon." When this was conveyed to him, he said, "I am the first one to testify that I am the Messenger of Allah." The Thaqif delegation visited the Prophet Muhammad every day, leaving Uthman bin Abi Al-As on their mounts as he was the youngest among them.

Conversation with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
One day, Uthman repeatedly visited the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asking about religion and reading the Quran until he gained deep understanding and knowledge. Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was found asleep, Uthman would turn to Abu Bakr, keeping it secret from others, which fascinated and pleased the Prophet. A delegation came to the Prophet inviting them to Islam, and they accepted. Kanana bin Abdi Ya Lael asked if they would be held accountable if they returned to their people. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) responded that if they were firm in accepting Islam, he would judge them; otherwise, there would be no case or reconciliation between them.
Discussion of Prohibited Acts
The delegation then inquired about adultery as a common practice among their people, to which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) firmly declared it as forbidden by Allah, citing Quranic verses. Similarly, they asked about usury, claiming it was essential for their financial well-being, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reiterated its prohibition. Alcohol was also brought up, with the Prophet confirming its prohibition as impure and an act of Satan.
Consultation and Compliance
Fearing the consequences of potential disagreements, the delegation decided to have their commitment to Islam written down so they would not stray as they did in Makkah. They presented their request to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), affirming their agreement with his teachings.

Speaker: You have what you asked for. What do you think we should do with the idol?
Response: Destroy it.
Others: No way! If the idol knew you wanted to destroy it, it would kill its people.
Response of Umar ibn al-Khattab: Oh son of Abd, how foolish you are! The idol is just a stone.
Messenger: We did not come to you, oh son of al-Khattab.
Response: Oh Messenger of Allah, order its destruction. As for us, we will never destroy it.
Messenger: I will send someone to handle its destruction. Write him a letter.
Kinanah ibn Abd Yalil: Allow us to handle this before your messenger arrives. I know my people. The Messenger of Allah granted them permission to act and honored them.
Appointment: Uthman ibn Abi al-Aas was appointed to destroy the idol due to his dedication to Islam and his knowledge of the Quran.
Kinanah ibn Abd Yalil's Strategy: He advised to dissemble the matter to the disbelievers and warned them of possible war. They were informed that Muhammad asked them to destroy the idols and prohibited certain practices, causing the disbelievers to react with fear and concern.

Dialogue and Resolution
In a discussion regarding wealth gained through riba, Thaqeef firmly rejected the proposal, emphasizing the prohibition of alcohol and adultery. The delegation suggested preparing for battle, but eventually fear overcame them, leading to reconciliation and offering what was requested. The delegation acknowledged the fairness and mercy displayed by the other party, leading to peaceful resolution.
Demolition of Lat
When the messengers of the Prophet arrived to destroy “Al-Lat,” the people of Thaqeef gave up quickly as they saw the determination and strength of the delegation. Despite their initial resistance, the structure was eventually demolished, leaving Thaqeef in awe of the power and resolve of those involved.

Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, bestowed upon her his jewelry and clothing. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, divided it among them for that day, and they praised Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, for the victory of His Prophet and the glorification of his religion. This is the wording of the hadith of Musa ibn 'Uqbah as narrated by 'Urwah. Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Yasār claimed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Al-Madinah from Tabuk in Ramadan, and during that month, a delegation from Thaqif came to see him. He further claimed that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, left them, 'Urwah ibn Mas'ud followed his trail and caught up with him before he reached Al-Madinah. 'Urwah embraced Islam and asked to return to his people with Islam. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, told him that they would fight him. Then he mentioned the story of his return and martyrdom, and how he was informed about his blood after being thrown. He replied: "It is an honor bestowed upon me by Allah and a testimony that Allah has confirmed to me. There is nothing in me except the martyrs who were killed with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, before he departed from you. Bury me with them." Thaqif stayed for months after the killing of 'Urwah ibn Mas'ud. Then he mentioned their visit to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and their acceptance of Islam. He mentioned that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Abu Sufyan ibn Harb and Al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah to demolish tyranny. Abu Sufyan stayed in his place, and Al-Mughira came with his whip and struck it with it. Banu Mu'attib stood below him, fearing that he would be stoned or hurt as 'Urwah was.
The women of Thaqif then emerged in distress, weeping, saying:
"Ibn 'Abd al-Barr summarized this in al-Durar (247-250). Al-Bayhaqi used the expression 'ibn Ishaq claimed' because al-Bayhaqi followed Musa ibn 'Uqbah in mentioning the delegation of Thaqif after the argument of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. Ibn Kathir (5:29) stated: 'This is unlikely. The correct version is that it happened before the argument of Abu Bakr, as mentioned by ibn Ishaq, and Allah knows best.' Ibn Hisham narrated this incident in al-Sirah (4:152-155)."
In some versions, it is mentioned that they came out weeping in the uncovered face of Hazrat:

Anecdote at Dar al-Mughirah
During a visit to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, Qiys prepared a meal at Dar al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah's house. Bilal would bring them the meal to break their fast. They asked if the Prophet had broken his fast to which Bilal replied yes, and that he would not come until the Prophet had eaten. Bilal would also bring them their pre-dawn meal.
Condition of the Companions
Upon their acceptance of Islam, the companions requested not to be closely pressed, abused, or chastised. The Prophet Muhammad agreed and said there is no good in a religion where such actions are present.
