Chapter on the Supplication of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for the People of Yemen, Sham, and Iraq for Guidance and the Response That Emerged

Abu Bakr Al-Qadi and Abu Saeed Ibn Abi Amro reported to us that Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad Ibn Yaqub narrated to us, who narrated from Al-Abbas Ibn Muhammad, who narrated from Ali Ibn Bahir Al-Qattan, who narrated from Hisham Ibn Yusuf, who narrated from Ma'mar who informed me through Thabit and Sulaiman At-Taymi, from Anas that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked towards Iraq, Sham, and Yemen, saying: "I do not know which of them he started with. Then he said: 'O Allah, guide their hearts to your obedience and remove behind them.'"

Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us that Abu Al-Abbas narrated to him, who narrated from Muhammad Ibn Ishaq As-Saghani, who narrated from Ali Ibn Bahir Ibn Bari, who mentioned it with a similar chain of narration, except that he said: "and remove behind them."

Abu Bakr Ibn Furak reported to us that Abdullah Ibn Ja'far narrated to him, who was informed by Yunus Ibn Habib, who was informed by Abu Dawud, who was informed by Imran Al-Qattan, from Qatadah, from Anas Ibn Malik, from Zaid Ibn Thabit, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked towards Yemen, saying: 'O Allah, guide their hearts.' Then he looked before [as mentioned by Al-Haythami in 'Majma Az-Zawa'id' and Tabarani in 'As-Saghir' and 'Al-Awsat', with a chain of narrators of the authentic except for Ali Ibn Bahir Ibn Bari, who is trustworthy]."

Translation of Classical Arabic Text

Al-Sham said: "O Allah, turn their hearts towards us," then he looked towards Iraq and said: "O Allah, turn their hearts towards us and bless our measures and weights."

I said: "We have already mentioned in his battles and journeys all that has been narrated from him (peace be upon him) in his supplications, seeking help, and the evident signs of prophethood in each of them, and in their repetition." Here is an extension, and success is from Allah alone.

[Al-Tirmidhi reported in the Book of Virtues of Yemen (5:726) and Abu Isa said: This is a good, authentic, strange hadith that we do not know except through the narration of Imran al-Qattan from Zayn ibn Thabit.]
