Regarding Reporting the Case of Suicide

It was reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Abu Al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Muqri informed us, who was informed by Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who narrated through Yusuf ibn Ya'qub Al-Qadi, from Muhammad ibn Kathir, who was informed by Israel, who narrated from Simak ibn Harb, from Jabir ibn Samurah Al-Suwa'i. He said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said, 'So-and-so has died.' The Prophet said, 'He did not die.' He came a second time and said, 'So-and-so has died.' The Prophet said, 'He did not die.' He came a third time and said, 'So-and-so has died; he committed suicide with a dagger, and he was not prayed upon.'

About the Case of the Man Who Fought Bravely in Khaybar or Hunayn

Also, mentioned is the case of the man who fought bravely in the battles of Khaybar or Hunayn, and he was among the people of the Fire. This incident was also mentioned with regard to the Battle of Khaybar. This narration was documented by Al-Tirmidhi in the chapter on Funerals, in the section regarding those who commit suicide, hadith (371, 1068), and by Al-Nasai in the book of Funerals, in the section on omitting the funeral prayer for those who commit suicide, hadith (107).

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي إِخْبَارِهِ بِحَالِ مَنْ نَحَرَ نَفْسَهُ فَكَانَ كَمَا أُخْبِرَ صَلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلمأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ السُّوَائِيُّ، قَالَ: «جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فُلَانًا مَاتَ. فَقَالَ لَمْ يَمُتْ فَعَادَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فُلَانًا مَاتَ فَقَالَ: لَمْ يَمُتْ فَعَادَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ فُلَانًا مَاتَ نَحَرَ نَفْسَهُ بِمِشْقَصٍ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ [ (١) ] .تَابَعَهُ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ وَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الْوَجْهِ أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مُخْتَصَرًا فِي الصَّلَاةِ[ (٢) ] .وَأَمَّا إِخْبَارُهُ بِحَالِ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَشُدُّ الْقِتَالَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ أَوْ حُنَيْنٍ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَدْ مَضَى ذِكْرُهُ فِي غَزْوَةِ خَيْبَرِ.[ (١) ] أخرجه الترمذي في الجنائز، بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِيمَنْ قتل نفسه، (٣: ٣٧١) ، الحديث (١٠٦٨) ، وأخرجه النسائي في: كتاب الجنائز، باب ترك الصلاة على من قتل نفسه.[ (٢) ] أخرجه مسلم في: ١١- كتاب الجنائز، حديث رقم (١٠٧) .
