Chapter on the Response of Allah's Answer to the Supplication of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when a Guest Visited Him and He Had Nothing with Him

It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: "The Prophet, peace be upon him, hosted a guest and sent to his wives to seek food, but none of them had anything. He then supplicated: 'O Allah, I ask You for Your grace and mercy, as no one possesses them except You.' Then, a roasted sheep was given to him, and he said: 'This is from the bounty of Allah, and we are waiting for mercy.'

It was narrated by Muhammad ibn Abdan al-Ahwazi from him, and the correct narration states: 'does not possess it.'

(Roasted): Cooked over fire.

Zubayd narrates an incident with the Prophet (pbuh)

Zubayd said, "The Prophet (peace be upon him) added to the saying of Zubayd." Zubayd relayed, "The Prophet (pbuh) mentioned him."

Narrators of the hadith

Reported by Muhammad bin Abdan al-Ahwazi from his father, from Hasan bin al-Harith al-Ahwazi, from Ubaydullah bin Musa, from Masad, from Zubayd, who said:

"The Prophet (peace be upon him) added to the saying and mentioned him."

Abu Abdur-Rahman al-Sulami informed us, who heard from Abu Amr bin Hamdan, who heard from Hasan bin Sufyan, who narrated from Ishaq bin Mansur, who heard from Sulayman bin Abdur-Rahman, who heard from Amr bin Bishr bin Sarh, who narrated from Walid bin Suleiman bin Abi Asaib, who informed us from Wa'ilah bin Al-Khattab from his father, from his grandfather Wathilah bin Al-Asqai, who said:

Story of fasting in Ramadan

"Ramadan came while we were in the army, so we fasted. When breaking fast, each man among us would take a man from those in our group and share our food with him, but one night nobody came to us. We spent the next day fasting as well. The caretaker (of the group) came to us that night, and nobody came to us. So we went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him of what had transpired."

The Prophet (pbuh) then asked each woman from his wives if they had any food, and each woman stated they had nothing except for a part of a sheep that had been kept to feed the leader, the Prophet (pbuh). The Prophet (pbuh) then gathered the people and prayed, "O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty and mercy, for indeed, they are in Your hands and no one can withhold them except You." Suddenly, a sheep was brought before them, along with some bread. The Prophet (pbuh) ordered it to be placed in front of them, and they ate until they were satisfied. The Prophet (pbuh) then said, "We asked Allah for His bounty and mercy, and this is His bounty that He has granted us, and He has saved His mercy for us.”

This hadith, narrated from Zubayd, is reported by Al-Tabarani, and its chain of transmission is considered hasan (good).
