Story of the Conversion of Abu Darda

Abu Bakr al-Qaffal al-Shashi narrated that Abu Bakr ibn Abu Dawud told them that Ahmad ibn Salih informed them, narrating from Abdullah ibn Wahb, who said: Muawiya ibn Salih told us from Abu al-Zahiriyah, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, who said: Abu Darda used to worship idols during the pre-Islamic era. Abdullah ibn Rawaha and Muhammad ibn Maslamah entered his house and stole his idol. When Abu Darda returned, he started collecting his idol and said: "Woe to you! Did you prevent anyone from harming you?" His mother replied: "If it could benefit or protect someone, it would protect itself." Abu Darda asked for water to perform ghusl, and after performing the ritual washing, he wore his clothes and went to the Prophet (peace be upon him). When the Prophet saw him approaching, he said: "This is Abu Darda, I only see him coming for Islam." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He has come to accept Islam as my Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, has promised me Abu Darda will embrace Islam." (Al-Mustadrak, 3:336-337)
