Chapter on the Date Palms Planted by the Prophet (peace be upon him) for Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him)

It has been reported by Abdullah bin Buraida that when Salman arrived in Al-Madinah, he visited the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with a gift on a plate. The Prophet asked Salman, "What is this, O Salman?" Salman replied, "It is charity for you and your companions." The Prophet said, "I do not eat charity," and he raised it. The next day, Salman brought the same gift and placed it in front of the Prophet, saying, "This is a gift for you." The Prophet then told his companions to eat it.

When they asked whom it was from, the Prophet said it was from a group and asked them to write down that Salman should plant and take care of a certain number of date palms until they bear fruits. The Prophet planted all the date palms except for one that was planted by Umar. The Prophet said, "Who planted this one?" They replied, "Umar." So, the Prophet replanted it with his own hands, and it immediately yielded fruits.

It has been narrated by Ibn Uthman from Salman that he started planting except for one (date palm).

Story of Salman the Persian's Conversion to Islam

Salman said: "My father was a from the people of Isfahan, and I used to differ with the scholars. I had two young boys who, when they would return from the scholars, they would enter upon a Christian monk. I would follow them and the monk would say to the boys, 'Did I not prohibit you from coming with anyone?' I continued to follow until I became dearer to the monk than the boys. He then asked me, 'Salman, if your family asks who detained you, what will you say?' I replied, 'The one who taught me.' And if your teacher asked who detained you, what would you say?' I replied, 'My family.' He then said, 'Salman, I wish to move. Will you accompany me?' I replied, 'I will be with you.'"

The monk then moved to a village and stayed there. When a woman came to him for a dispute, he told Salman to dig for something. Salman dug and found a jar of silver coins. The monk instructed him to pour it on his chest, and as he did, the monk exclaimed with distress, hitting his chest, 'Woe to the bishop!' and then died.

Salman blew into him and the Christian clerics and monks convened, and when he wanted to take the money, Allah diverted him from it.

Story of a Man Seeking Knowledge

When the priests gathered, I said: "He has left behind wealth." So, a group of young men in the village intercepted him and took it. When he was buried, I said to the priests: "O priests! Guide me to a knowledgeable person I can join." They replied: "We don't know anyone on earth more knowledgeable than a man who used to visit Jerusalem. If you leave now and find his donkey at the door of Jerusalem, follow it. So, I set off and found the donkey, sat next to it until he came out, and narrated the story to him. He said, 'Sit until I return to you.' I did not see him until the following year.

When he came, I asked him what he had done for me. He asked if I still had what he gave me. I said yes. Then, he mentioned signs by which he could be recognized. So, I set off, and each time I met him, I was raised and then lowered until I ended up being sold in the city. I heard people mentioning the Prophet, peace be upon him. Living became difficult, so I asked my family to give me something to donate. They did, and I sold it for a small amount, then brought it and placed it before him, saying it was a charity. He asked his companions to eat, but he refused. I insisted it was just one. Eventually, time passed, and I asked my family again for something to give away. They did, and I sold it for a better price. I cooked food and brought it to him as a gift. He said 'In the name of Allah,' and they all ate together.

Afterward, as I stood behind him, he took off his cloak, and the seal of Prophethood on his back resembled an egg. I then said, "I bear witness..."

Hadith on Entering Paradise

In an authentic hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Pray that there is no deity but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah." Then he asked: "What do you see?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will the unjust ruler enter Paradise claiming that you are a prophet?" He replied: "No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim soul." I then asked: "O Prophet of Allah, inform me that you are a prophet." He said: "No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim soul." [Source: Majma' al-Zawa'id (9:336)]
