Chapter on the Death of Abu Darda' Before the Tribulations

It has been narrated that Abu Darda', may Allah be pleased with him, will die before the occurrence of tribulations as he himself informed. It has also been reported about the vision of 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah that he narrated to us, and those who reported to us include reliable narrators such as Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz, Abu Al-'Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, Muhammad ibn Ishaq As-Saghani, 'Umar ibn Sa'id Ad-Dimashqi, Sa'id ibn 'Abdul-'Aziz At-Tanukhi, from Isma'il ibn 'Ubaydullah, from Abu 'Abdullah Al-Ash'ari, from Abu Darda'. He said:

"O Messenger of Allah! I have heard that you said: 'There will certainly be people who will turn back on their heels (from the faith) after me.' He replied: 'Yes, but you are not one of them.' Abu Darda' passed away before 'Uthman was killed."

It has also been reported by Abu Al-Husayn ibn Al-Fadl Al-Qattan, who narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far, from Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, from Safwan, from Al-Walid, from 'Abdul-Ghaffar ibn Isma'il ibn 'Ubaydullah, from his father, who narrated from a righteous predecessor, saying:

"I heard Abu Darda' saying: 'The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "I will be waiting for you at the Pond (in Paradise) and will admit those of you who will come to me. Then I will be stopped from reaching some of you, and I will say: 'These are from my Ummah.' But it will be said: 'You do not know what they did after you.'"

Notes on Abu Darda'

Abu Darda' was 'Amir ibn Malik, the exemplary leader, the judge of Damascus, the companion of the Messenger of Allah, the sage of this Ummah, and the master reciter of Damascus.

Story of Abu Darda

Abu Darda said, "I was afraid to be among them, so I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned it to him. He said, 'You are not one of them!' Abu Darda passed away before Uthman was killed and before the trials occurred." Yazid ibn Abi Maryam narrated from Abu Ubaidullah Muslim ibn Mishkam from Abu Darda, that the Prophet said to him, 'You are not one of them.'

Additional Narrations

Abu Al-Husain ibn Al-Fadl told us, who narrated from Abdullah ibn Ja'far, who was informed by Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, who was told by Muhammad ibn Al-Muthanna, who narrated from Abdul Wahab, saying: "I heard Yahya ibn Sa'id saying: I heard Abdullah ibn Amir ibn Rabia praying at night when people were divided in their opinions about Uthman. He prayed at night, then slept. In his dream, he was told: 'Ask Allah to protect you from the trial that He protected His righteous servants from.' He got up, prayed, but then soon passed away, only attending a funeral thereafter."
