Chapter on the Account of Abu Dharr's Situation Upon His Death and His Command to Leave Madinah During the Emergence of Strife

It was narrated that Um Dhar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Quran"As for Uthman, he will not be able to force Abu Dhar to leave, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When construction turns into wealth, leave from it." So when construction turned into wealth, Abu Dhar left for Ash-Sham. The hadith mentions his return and departure to Rabza and his death there.

Narrators of the Hadith:

It was narrated by Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz, who was informed by Abu Ja'far Al-Baghdadi, who was told by Isma'il ibn Ishaq Al-Qadi, who narrated it from Ali ibn Abdullah Al-Madini, who was informed by Yahya ibn Sulaim Al-Ta'ifi, who got it from Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaim, from Mujahid, from Ibrahim ibn Al-Ashtar, from his father, from Um Dhar, who said: "When Abu Dhar's death approached, I cried. He asked me, 'Why are you crying?' I said, 'Why wouldn't I cry when you are dying on a piece of land, and I have no shroud to cover you, nor for me?' He said, 'Be glad, don't cry. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'A man among you will die on a piece of land, witnessed by a group of believers.' None of those present then failed to die in a village and a community. I am that man, and I swear by Allah, I am not lying. Look for the way.' I thought the pilgrims had gone and the road was blocked. He said, 'Go and look.' I intensely looked but found nothing, and then returned."

The Prophet's Prediction

One day, while I was visiting Abu Dharr and he was unwell, we saw some men approaching on their camels, looking exhausted. Ali bin Abi Talib said that these men looked like they had traveled a long distance. When they reached us, they asked about Abu Dharr, who was the companion of the Messenger of Allah. They rushed to him and entered his place. They said, "Give us good news, for we heard the Messenger of Allah saying that among a group of believers, there will be a man who will die in a valley covered with vegetation, witnessed by a group of believers. None of those people will survive except that man who will be buried in a city." They asked him, and he confirmed that this was the case. Abu Dharr swore by Allah saying, "If I had a shroud that fits me or my wife, I would not use it unless it was mine or hers. I ask you all by Allah and ask those among you who are leaders, local chiefs, overseers, or captains to bury me. None of those people asked failed to fulfill his request except for a young Ansari man. He said, 'I will shroud you, O uncle, I will shroud you,' in a garment that had been neglected by his mother. So the Ansari prepared the shroud, followed by others who attended, prayed over him, and buried him in a valley named Yaman."

Prophet's Saying

When Abu Dharr heard about his impending death, he quoted the Prophet Muhammad's saying, "Two Muslim parents who lose two or three children and remain patient will be saved from the fire forever." This hadith was reported by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad and cited by Ibn Kathir in his Tarikh.
