Chapter on Manifestations of Miracles about Umm Shareek on her Migration to the Messenger of Allah and the Prophethood's Evidence in the Gift She Presented to Him

Abu Huraira reported: A woman from Dawas, known as Umm Shareek, embraced Islam in Ramadan. She sought someone to accompany her to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. She met a man from the Jews who asked her why she was searching for someone. She replied that she was seeking a companion to take her to the Messenger of Allah. He offered to accompany her, so she asked him to wait while she fetched water. He said he already had water, but she insisted. They set out and traveled until evening.

The Jew set down his baggage to eat, inviting Umm Shareek to dinner. She asked for some water as she was thirsty and needed to drink before eating. He refused, saying he would not give her water until she became a Jewess. She refused, and he did not let her drink a single drop until she converted. She reiterated her refusal, stating that she would never apostatize after Allah had guided her to Islam. She then approached her camel, loosened its muzzle, and rested her head on its knees to sleep.

She was only awakened by the coolness of a water container spilling on her forehead. She raised her head and found that a drop fell between her collarbones.1

The Story of Um Shareek

A man narrated: "I drank water whiter than milk and sweeter than honey until I was satisfied. Then I watered a trough until it was soaked. I filled it, then it was raised between my hands as I watched it until it disappeared from me in the sky. When morning came, a Jewish man arrived and said, 'O Um Shareek!' I replied, 'By Allah, Allah quenched me.' He asked, 'Where did He send down upon you from the sky?' I said, 'Yes, by Allah, Allah Almighty sent down upon me from the sky,' then he raised his hand until it disappeared from me in the sky. I approached until I entered upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I presented the story to him. The Messenger of Allah offered himself to her in marriage, but she said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I am not satisfied with myself for you, but give me to someone else on your behalf.' Thus, she was wed to Zaid and thirty sa of dates were given to her with the instruction to eat without measuring. She had a container of ghee as a gift for the Messenger of Allah. She said to her servant, 'Take this container to the Messenger of Allah, and say, 'Um Shareek sends you greetings, and this container of ghee is a gift we have sent for you.' The servant took it, they emptied it, and the Messenger of Allah said, 'Hang it up and do not eat from it.' So they hung it up, and Um Shareek entered, seeing it filled with ghee. She inquired of the servant, 'Did I not order you to take this container to the Messenger of Allah?' The servant replied, 'I swear by Allah, I took it as you commanded.' Then she took it back, and no more ghee dripped from it, yet he said, 'Hang it up and do not eat from it.' She hung it up, after which Um Shareek saw it filled with ghee. They consumed it until they were bloated, then consumed barley only to find it remained the same, thirty sa in total, without diminishing."

This story is corroborated by an authentic narration from Jabir ibn Abdullah concerning Um Malik.
